2004 CAL Meeting Agenda, New York City
- Members of the Catholic Academy of Liturgy are reminded that CAL
members and visitors will convene on Saturday, January 3rd, from 9:00
a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The morning will be taken up with reports, Academy business and
elections:
9:00 Gathering, Prayer
9:30 Coordinator's Report [Andrew Ciferni]
9:45 Election of new member to a 3 year term on the coordinating
team to replace Ed Foley. Candidates are:
John Baldovin, S.J. has been Professor of Historical and Liturgical
Theology at Weston Jesuit School of Theology since 1999. He taught
previously at Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley (1984-1999) and
Fordham University (1981-1984). John has also been visiting professor at
the University of Notre Dame and St. John Vianney National Seminary,
Pretoria, South Africa. His field of specialization is liturgical
history. He has written The Urban Character of Christian Worship (1987),
Liturgy in Ancient Jerusalem (1989), Worship: City, Church and Renewal
(Pastoral Press, 1991), Bread of Life, Cup of Salvation: Understanding
the Mass (2003). He has also edited Robert Hovda: The Amen Corner (1993)
and (with Nathan Mitchell), Rule of Prayer, Rule of Faith: Essays in
Honor of Aidan Kavanagh (2000). A member of NAAL since its founding,
John served as President (1990-1991). A member of Societas Liturgica
since 1981 he also served as its President (1999-2001). Since 1995 he
has worked on a number of committees of ICEL and served as advisor to
the USCC Bishops' Committee on Liturgy (1989-1992).
Mary Alice Piil, CSJ is best know to Academy members as past
Secretary of NAAL. Since leaving that office, Mary Alice has also left
her position of twenty year on the faculty of the Seminary of the
Immaculate Conception in Huntington, New York. At present, she is
Director of Formation of Deacons for the Diocese of Rockville Centre and
continues to serve the Seminary in the role of adjunct Professor of
Liturgy. Mary Alice brings to CAL's discussion not only her experience
as Professor at the Seminary but also as a participant in the ICEL
Sacramentary project where she served as a member of the Presentation
of Texts committee for ten years.
